Caring for Your Solid Wood Furniture

(Natural Oil Finish)

We craft the majority of our furniture from solid natural wood, finished with natural oil to highlight its inherent beauty and unique characteristics. To ensure your pieces maintain their beauty and longevity, please follow these care instructions.

Understanding Natural Wood & Oil Finish:

  • Unique Wood Grain & Color: Due to the natural variations in wood, each product will feature slightly different grain patterns and colors. This is a testament to the natural beauty and uniqueness of your piece.

  • "Breathing" Wood & Natural Oil: Our solid wood products, finished with natural oil, are designed to "breathe," meaning they are sensitive to environmental changes. This natural oil finish allows the wood to maintain its natural texture and feel. To prevent damage, it's crucial to maintain consistent humidity levels.

Preventing Damage:

To avoid discoloration, cracking, warping, or other damage to your natural wood products, please avoid placing them in:

  1. Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and damage.

  2. Near Heating or Cooling Units: Extreme temperature fluctuations can lead to warping and cracking.

  3. Areas Exposed to Water: Excessive moisture can cause warping, staining, and other damage.

Maintenance:

We normally use Polyx Original from Osmo Oil for our furniture pieces. For detailed information and application instructions, please visit the Osmo Oil website: www.osmo.ca

  • Osmo Spray Cleaner: it’s designed as an ‘everyday’ cleaning product. Simply spray on your Osmo-treated surface and wipe clean with a soft cloth.

  • Liquid Wax cleaner: It’s designed for periodic use (1-4 times per year) and is designed to help restore the sheen and water-repellency of the finish. To use, apply a thinly to a surface and wipe off all excess using a clean cloth.

  • Re-Oiling: When the surface becomes worn to the point that it must be re-oiled, then either maintenance oil (3079 clear matte, 3081 clear stain or 3440 white) or the same product that was initially applied. Please inquire us for your specific product information.
