KIGI BENCH

Currently on view — Divergent, May 14–31, 2026 Visual Space Gallery — Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm

Solid walnut blocks, each handcrafted, assembled at varying heights to form a surface that is topographic, architectural, and unrepeatable. Furniture that has moved firmly into the territory of fine craft.

KIGI is constructed from individually made solid wood blocks — each one shaped by hand, each edge deliberate — built up together to form a relief surface that is as sculptural as it is structural. The varying heights create a pixelated landscape that reads differently from every angle: ordered, yet alive with grain variation and shadow.

It looks uncompromising. Sit down, and the blocks quietly yield — conforming to your shape in a way that is unexpectedly comfortable. The piece holds that contradiction well.

In Japanese, kigi means "many trees." The name reflects both the material and the method — individual pieces of solid wood, brought together with care to form something greater than the sum of its parts.

Made entirely from offcuts and leftover wood from our Vancouver studio, every KIGI bench gives material a second life without compromise. No two are identical.
